Hikers & Mountain Bikers – Reach the Höttinger Alm – one of Innsbruck classic hikes and bikes. Get all info for this local’s favourite mountain tour including map and directions.
On this 24-kilometer easy-to-medium hiking/biking route in Innsbruck (Austria), there are two huts that provide backpackers and nature lovers with the opportunity to recuperate and recharge – Arzler Alm and Höttinger Alm. However, one is more popular than the other, and the main reason is the terrace with an astonishing view. Visit the Hottinger Hut with the help of Mountain Moments, and get ready to take some breathtaking photos while you are there.
The Höttinger Alm (Hottinger Hut) is considered by sporty hikers and mountain bikers alike to be the after-work round. A whopping 900 meters in altitude have to be climbed steeply from the city center without a real breather.
Only at the top, shortly before the finish, does the view down to the city open up. The picturesquely located terrace of the Alm offers space to catch your breath – time to replenish your energy reserves!
Directions! This is how your Höttinger Alm-centered trip looks like on a map
Starting point of the tour is at the market place. Steeply it goes directly up to Hötting and along the Hungerburgstrasse to the Hungerburg (868m). From here, follow the MTB trail signs to the Arzler Alm/Höttinger Alm along the road. At the Arzler Alm (1067m) continue uphill. After two hairpin bends, the final straight follows. About 200 meters before the alp the road flattens out and the path to the Höttinger Alm (1487m). Return as for the ascent.
Alternative downhill: Shortly after the Arzler Alm, turn right onto the well-marked Arzler Alm single trail and follow it to the district of Mühlau (only recommended for very good touring bikers).
The tour leads mostly through forest, but due to the south-facing slope in high summer on hot, sunny days only in the early morning and evening hours to recommend. On the other hand, depending on the snow conditions, the tour can often be skied well into the winter (pay attention to the legal and avalanche situation.
