What to do in Innsbruck when for city people? Our top 3 tipps for lifestyle activities in the cities and maybe for your next date.
You know us at Mountain Moments – we are all about healthy lifestyle, fresh air, physical activity, enjoying the natural environment, and photography – which reminds us of every outdoor adventure we participated in. In Innsbruck, a beautiful city in the Alps and the capital of Tyrol (Austria), there is plenty to choose from. Is jogging your thing, or maybe cycling of fitness? If it’s none of the above, and you lean more towards ball sports or slacklining, Innsbruck still remains a great choice.
What is en vogue in the sports city of Innsbruck? Surely it’s not so much rhythmic gymnastics, wrestling or handball. Sure, you can certainly find these sports in Innsbruck. The capital of Tyrol is versatile, and above all dedicated to one great theme: the mountains and individual mountain sports.

A bright light shines on them in Innsbruck, they are home to many extroverted individual athletes – from climbing pros to snowboard dropouts. Our selection of sports practiced in the city is not an all-encompassing overview. It is intended to give an impression of what Innsbruck’s world of sports has to offer.
Green belt Innsbruck – jogging, cycling, fitness, slackline in the city center
The green oasis in the city is the “Green Belt” along the two rivers Inn and Sill. Along the almost entirely paved riverside paths, it is possible to stroll, jog, cycle, rush to appointments, play or simply pass the time in a relaxed manner.
Some sports facilities, such as fitness equipment, facilities for slacklining, multi-sport fields for ball sports, children’s playgrounds, and simple green open spaces are used by the people of Innsbruck and their visitors gladly and abundantly, especially in summer.
The facilities are generally quite well maintained and please keep it that way. Do your part as well.

Ball sports in Innsbruck
Whether beach volleyball, soccer, basketball, or other ball sports, Innsbruck is rather regionally relevant here. At the sports university, at the Tivoli, and in some smaller places in the residential areas of the city center, various ball sports can be practiced. In addition, there is beach volleyball at the Grünes Band and the outdoor pools. The duels are particularly exciting when the foehn is blowing. The strong, gusty winds then present the players with additional, unplanned tasks.
Skating in Innsbruck
Where individualists meet, the skate sport is not far away. Whether on a bike, inline skates, the classic skateboard or with short-term trend alternatives: the skater scene at Landhausplatz is internationally known. The square, steeped in history, dates back to plans of the Nazi regime and has only been redesigned into its current form since 2008. Flanking it to the north is the former Gauhaus, now the Landhaus.

Innsbruck is one of the few cities in Europe that not only design such a public square in the middle of the center as a concrete desert but also let its – mostly young – population use it for sports.
Several other, mostly small squares are open for skaters. A popular – not legal – place of use is also the university. On bad weather days, the scene meets in the WUB hall. Check out this activity map
