The most popular Instagram spot in the Zillertal: Suspension bridge at the Olperer Hut
In recent times, probably the most famous photo spot in the Zillertal is can be located at the Olperer Hütte (Olperer hut). A small suspension bridge spans over a mountain stream, with the Schlegeis reservoir and the Hintereisferner massif in the background. This is an impressive motif in itself, and its almost perfect shape makes it incredibly popular on social networks such as Instagram.
You find the instagramable photo location next to the Olperer hut.
How to get there: Go via car or bus to Schlegeis lake. Start your hike there. The yellow hiking signs are easy to spot. Follow the path to Olperer Hut.
Note: You will need hiking shoes with a medium to good sole suited for hiking. Especially when wet, you will have trouble sliding and falling on this typical steep alpine hiking route.
Time: This is a full day adventure. When you are in shape you will need around 2 hours for he uphill and 1,5 hours for the downhill hike. The drive will take another 1-3 hours.
You want to get the full photography adventure and not miss all the other spots and hit it at the right time? Then book a private hiking-photography tour. Our professional photographer guide will not only take you to thee places safely, but also get your photography game to the next level.
Photo spots in the ski area/ photo spots in Ischgl
Photo location: Little Tibet
No, you don’t have to travel all the way to the Himalayas to get to Little Tibet. Just make your way to the Schlegeis reservoir, you will find the typical colourful prayer flags and breathtaking views that often accompany the disappearing “eternal ice”. We recommend that you take an enjoyable walk in this corner of the world and let your soul melt away.

A personal favourite hike of mine, leads not far from Eggalm ski area to the Torseen lakes just north of Grüblspitze mountain. Once you have crossed the borders of this rather ski area, a wonderful world of alpine pastures with naturally dammed lakes opens up to you.
Surefootedness is essential on this hike, which is mainly geared towards advanced hikers, especially those who want to hike over Grüblspitz mountain.
Taking pictures while freeriding in Hochfügen
Hochfügen is one of the snowiest places in Tyrol. If you are looking for fresh powder snow, you will probably find the best this region. As always with freeriding, there are no “one spot fills all” photo locations, it is advisable to decide spontaneously where to take your “photo of the day” depending on conditions, environmental hazards and trails.
The slopes around the Hochfügen ski resort tend to be the most favoured – intermediate skiers tend to prefer the “Outta Banks” routes. The pros plunge down the extremely steep slopes of the Ostwand (east wall of the mountain). At the Pfaffenbühel Ski lift, you will have an excellent view of this magnificent spectacle.
Alpine mountain excursion and ski tour: Hoher Riffler mountain
In our opinion, the most beautiful view in the Zillertal is from the summit of Hohe Riffler mountain. It’s about a 1,5 hours ascent from the ski areas of Hintertuxer glacier. This “easy” 3000m high mountain is waiting for all alpinistically motivated visitors. The view from the summit ranges from Bavaria to South Tyrol, from Austria’s largest mountain – the towering Grossglockner, to the Grandioso Piz Bernina – the highest point on the Bernina range of mountains. Note: The summit structure is glacial and the route there requires a basic level of alpine experience and skills.
Gilfert mountain is a great example of an easy hike with extensive views of the Inn valley. The duration of the hike is only about 1 hour from the top chairlift in the Hochfügen ski resort.
