My 7 most beautiful photo locations in the Dolomites beyond Instagram
UNIQUE MOMENTS IN THE DOLOMITES: OUR 7 BEST PHOTO SPOTS AND DESTINATIONS FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

The Dolomites are often referred to as the most beautiful mountains in the world. Nowhere in the Alpine region are the peaks more rugged, and nowhere else can these types of mountainous regions be reached with such comparative ease. In this article we would like to introduce you to, what we think, are the most beautiful photo spots in the Dolomites. Many of these photo locations are easy for everyone to reach, but some are only accessible by foot.
The 7 most beautiful photo spots in the Dolomites
Church St. Magdalena in front of the Geisler group

The small church of St. Magdalena is probably the most famous photo location in the Dolomites among landscape photographers.
Lush green grass, the romantic chapel with the threateningly steep peaks of the Geisler group in the background – all great composition that landscape photographers obviously cannot resist.
Close by in the village is another charmingly located church. It’s an easy walk up the hill. I leave it up to you to discover it for yourself after only a one hour hike.
Karer Lake (Lago di Carezza) and Latemar

The Karer Lake or Lago di Carezza is located directly on the main road and has a large parking lot and is a must-see photo location in the Dolomites.
The water of the lake is still and mostly crystal clear thanks to the barriers – the steep rock crags of the Latemar are reflected in it when there is no wind.
Mountain Moments Tip: A unique photo location, especially in non-sunshine weather. Please hold to the perimeter! The local nature conservation authorities have not established these without good reason.
Braies Wild Lake – Lago di Braies

Pragser Wildsee is probably the most photographed lake in the Alps. Direct access from the parking lot and a location that seems to inspire millions of Instagram users to pose for a selfie .
The lake itself is impressively flanked by steep dolomite cliffs. Images of the rowing boat hut in the foreground have already been repeated millions of times, especially for selfie photography.

You find the best photo location at Lago di Braies basically just next to the parking lot, you can’t miss it.
Mountain Moments Tip: Please do not climb onto the jetty or over the hut or over the boats like everyone else.
Update 2020: There are new rules for accessing the hut. The owner established fees for photographing the boats and from the hut. Book in advance if you plan a wedding or Insta shoot there.
Tre Cime – the Three Peaks

The Three Peaks Hike is one of the most famous photo hikes in the Alps. Those who pay the hefty toll on the way to the Rifugio Auronzo alpine hut – approximately 30 Euro per car – can do this simple hike in their flipflops – I have in fact seen ladies in high heels here trying to walk on the gravel roads.
Landscape photographers often choose to shoot the sunset from the hiking trail that starts east of the Three Peaks , or spend the night in the Tre Cime hut and then include it in their composition.
Cinque Torri

The landmark of the Dolomites is a very small but beautiful rock formation: The Cinque Torri (5 peaks).
With a short lift ride or a hike of about one hour you will reach this world-famous photo spot from the Passo Falzarego mountain pass or from the car park a little further east on the main road – bus stop “Cinque Torri”.
Photo spot: Seiser ALPINE PASTURE and the Langkofel/Plattkofel Group of mountains

One of the most popular photo spots for photo workshops and landscape photography courses in the Alps is the Seiser alpine pasture. This is the location where most of our clients in a private photo workshop choose to go – and that for a reason. The sunset is just stunning and we have many possibilities for capturing a great landscape photograph.
The largest alpine pasture in the Alps offers a uniquely cultivated alpine landscape, rustic huts, easy hiking trails and breathtaking views of Sassolungo and Plattkofel mountains. Here, not far from the top station of the gondola from Ortisei, you will find one of the most popular photo spots in the northeastern area.
Photo hiking and Dolomite panoramas

Our last photo spot is not a classic location in itself. Rather, we would like to motivate you to look for your own favourite photo location. We have been hiking countless times in the Dolomites and again and again we discover new top photo locations. The especially nice thing being the surprise effect of discovering it your self.

The photo locations mentioned above are all documented hundreds of thousands of times. In the best case, if you are there, you will already know in advance what to expect. The photo locations you find yourself are therefore often more worth remembering. You’ll remember them for the rest of your life. So, go out and discover your own top photo spots.
So, you made it this far! Congratulations, you just read my peronal list of favourite locations and photo spots in the Dolomites. What are your favourite spots? Which one do you find the most beautiful? Let us know in the comments below.
