Hike on Munichs Home mountain Wallberg and enjoy an indrecible panoramic view
A 1722-meter high Wallberg, a mountain in the Mangfallgebirge (Bavarian Alps), proximity-wise, is basically Munich’s local bedrock. From Munich’s Marienplatz, it feels like you always have Wallberg in your sight and mind.
Mountain Moments can be your right hand on this moderately difficult 5-hour, 12.5-kilometer route, with a trail map, expert hiking advice, and professional photo tips and trips as a part of photography workshops.
Some interesting information before we focus on the nitty-gritty
If you don’t want to climb the 930 meters to the summit, you can take the Wallbergbahn – or at least combine one route. The venerable Wallberg chapel accompanies the summit panorama.
When the wind conditions are good, dozens of paragliders complement our mountain moment. We love watching the launch and enjoy the added dynamic to our photos as they glide gracefully through the air.
Directions! This is how your hiking adventure looks like on a map
The starting point of this tour is at the Wallbergbahn car park (785m). From the valley station, we hike along a wide forest path (618) in the direction of Wallberg and into the mountain forest. We cross the ski slope and turn right at a junction at the sign “Winterweg/Berglauf”. Now we follow a beautiful path (618) to the Wallbergmoos restaurant (1105m).
It’s now a short way up the winter path. At the junction, we turn right onto the road. After a few minutes, turn left onto a little-used and steeper path up a ridge to the Friesinger hut. Now the view of the Wallberg chapel (1560m) is clear!
This 12.5-kilometer trail can be covered in under 5 hours. The highest and lowest points are 1715m and 785m.
So we follow the road on the left. From here we continue uphill on the road in the direction of the Wallberg Haus (1512m) and the Wallbergbahn mountain station. We then continue to the summit (1722m).
The descent continues to the crossroads in front of the chapel. Now take the summer path right downhill and follow it to the starting point.
Photo tips that will make your Instagram pop! The Bavarian foothills and capturing the sunset
Our star of this hike is the popular summit view of Lake Tegernsee – framed by the beautiful Bavarian foothills of the Alps. In good weather conditions, paragliders give the landscape photos a sporty, dynamic touch.
Tip: Shutter speed 1/400 sec or faster.
Mountain Moments Photo Workshops provide Photo Tours for everybody, Alpine Experience for beginners and intermediate-level photographers with 3 to 6-hour routes, as well as Summit Experience for more advanced photographers and hikers. We have private workshops and group classes.
The most striking motif is the Wallberg chapel in an atmospheric Alpine foothills setting. At sunset, it stands in the sun for a long time on the summit and is particularly atmospheric.
