One of the alpine huts you pass along the way. We definitely recommend stopping if not for some tasty typical tyrolean dishes, at least for the views.

When you hold something near and dear to your heart, to some extent, you consider it your own. The Patscherkofel is the self-proclaimed local mountain of the people of Innsbruck, and when one sees the beauty, people’s pride and instinct to protect it is explained immediately – without any words. This area can be covered on foot, and partially on a mountain bike, too. This time, here on Mountain Moments we will cover the MTB aspect of this adventure. We are going – will you be joining us?

The legal MTB route leads scenically through some small villages south of Innsbruck and to their alpine pastures. Here on the south balcony of the city, you’ll meet many locals on their after-work or weekend round of walking or mountain biking. The huts are all quite traditional and offer hearty Tyrolean cuisine. This is demanded and also appreciated by the guests.

The MTB circuit leads mainly through a shady forest on the northern slope and is therefore especially in high summer a way to escape the valley heat. The loop links the most scenic places with some huts as well as a high-altitude trail and often offers a dreamlike panoramic view of Innsbruck and the imposing Nordkette.

The alpine huts are called “Alm” in Tyrol. Especially outside of the ski areas and around Innsbruck you find a dozen or so of them. They all serve very tasty local and udually hand-made food. We definitely recommend and never had a bad experience there. Not a single time :). Get som Knödel (Dumplings) or ask the staff what they can recommend. The 4 huts along this MTB Tour all serve tasty dishes and fresh cakes. That’s why you will see a lot of local people here stopping on their activities. Bonus: All huts have very reasonable prices as most of their clients are locals.

Photo tips that will make your Instagram pop – alpine huts and the south balcony

Photogenic on this hut tour are the alpine huts as well as the view from the south balcony down to Innsbruck. The traditional alpine hut food is also a sought-after photo motif.

Since the tour runs mainly in the forest, you enjoy the few viewpoints (mostly from the terraces of the huts) all the more.
