The Alpe di Siusi is the largest alpine pasture in the Alps and probably one of the most picturesque places in the Dolomites. Green meadows and idyllic alpine huts like out of a storybook, framed by the the massive mountain flanks of Sassolungo (3181m) and Sassopiatto (2958m).
The Alpe di Siusi also belongs to the collection of the most beautiful places in the Alps and thus naturally attracts many landscape lovers and photographers in summer as well as in winter.
Directions! This is how your Alpe di Siusi journey looks like on a map
From Siusi allo Sciliar (1004m) by bus or cable car to Compatsch, the top station of the cable car (1800m). Shortly through the village to the “main road”. Here follow the hiking signs to the east in the direction of Saltria/Hannes- and Paula-Steger-Weg. After about 800m cross the main road and continue along the Steger-Weg through gentle hills and small tree settlements on a wide hiking trail.
Finally, the path goes downhill for about 80 meters in altitude, during which the view opens up to the right over gently sloping alpine meadows to the Langkofel and Plattkofel peaks. Follow the path downhill until you reach a road junction. Here turn sharp left along the road and at the first crossroads keep to the right in the direction of Monte Icaro/Sankt Ulrich cable car.
Follow the path on the right hand side, the characteristic biotope landscape around the Große and Kleine Moos opens up.Beautiful resting places are the Contrinschwaige and Sanon.
Finally via the small road and uphill to the cable car mountain station to Sankt Ulrich and by bus back to Siusi or via Monte Icaro (1939m) back to the mountain station Alpe di Siusi. At starting point you can also use the cable car Alpe di Siusi from Ortisei.
Photo tips that will make your Instagram pop – slopes, summits and striking views
Sassolungo and Sassopiatto tower prominently above the Alpe di Siusi and the gently rolling slopes that follow. The imposing rising summits provide the background for most photographs taken here. Especially when autumnal fog drifts over the alp, outstanding mountain shots can be taken here.
The photo spot shown is located near the cable car mountain station of Sankt Ulrich. Along the road and the surrounding hiking trails between Monte Icaro (Hotel Icaro) and the Moos biotope (Col da Fil) are the most beautiful views. Equally impressive are the views (also from the valley near Siusi) to the Sciliar, the striking cone.
Mountain Moments Photo Workshops provide Photo Tours for everybody, Alpine Experience for beginners and intermediate-level photographers with 3 to 6-hour routes, as well as Summit Experience for more advanced photographers and hikers. We have private workshops and group classes.
