What’s so special about the Fellhorn route?

Those who know the Allgäu high Alps love the characteristic steep grassy slopes. Such grassy meadows, popular and easy to walk on, rise steeply between Söllereck and the Fellhorn summit.

Between the two popular ski areas, we hike on the high-level trail in the Allgäu High Alps nature reserve, which offers great views and is close to nature.

In addition to the fabulous view of Oberstdorf and the main Alps, nature lovers are particularly enthusiastic about the variety of flowers that can be admired here in the Alpine terrain.

This tour starts at the mountain station of the Söllereckbahn. From the station directly uphill on the road in the direction of Fellhorn. After a few steep meters it is now flat to the Söller Alpe. Now turn right and hike steeply uphill on the hiking trail.

After the first ascent, the path leads along the ridge via Schlappoldkopf (1968m) and Fellhorn summit (2038m) to the mountain station of the Fellhorn cable car. We take the bus back to the starting point.

Refreshments stop available on this route are Berghaus Schönblick and Berghaus am Söller.

Alternatives

If you want to walk fewer meters uphill, you can do the hike in the opposite direction.

The hike is also possible without using the lift, but then it is much further away. It is particularly worthwhile to take the valley path past the Freibergsee. A jump into the cool water can be enjoyed with the extraordinary view of the hill.

For hikes lasting several days, it is best to continue south from the Fellhornkamm (Kanzelwand, Hammerspitze). Fiderepasshütte and Mindelheimer Hütte are then a worthwhile destinations.

Photo tips that will make your Instagram pop! Allgäu steep meadow slopes and telephoto shots

If the panorama of the Allgäu steep meadow slopes is already impressive at the starting point, this impression intensifies again as soon as we reach the Fellhornkamm.

Telephoto shots of the opposite slopes in the direction of the Nebelhorn and Heilbronner Weg can be amazing, and wide-angle shots of the ridge itself are a great photo opportunity, as well.

Mountain Moments Photo Workshops provide Photo Tours for everybody, Alpine Experience for beginners and intermediate-level photographers with 3 to 6-hour routes, as well as Summit Experience for more advanced photographers and hikers. We have private workshops and group classes.

Tip: Use the ridge path as a visual element and play with the size of other hikers.

Probably the most beautiful photo view is from the Schlappolteck (1927m) to the Söllerkopf.

Caution! Danger of falling on the steep ridge, especially when it’s wet.

This 6km hiking trail requires some experience, as there are more frequent dangers of falling.
