What’s so special about this hiking route? This is what awaits you on the location

The hike described here from Ruhpolding is particularly attractive. Because although there is a lot going on on the mountain, this hike is wonderfully lonely at times. However, the fantastic views let us easily ignore the crowds and truly enjoy our tour.

What an incredible view from Hochfelln summit. Perfect timing and photography from our photographer Sebastian Scheichl

Directions! This is how your hiking trail looks like on a map

This tour starts either in Ruhpolding (when arriving by public transport) or at the Staudinger Hügel hiking car park (700m). It first goes up the road in the direction of Steinberg A lm.

In the course, we change to the hiking trail. Follow the forest road from the Steinberg Alm to the Bründling Alm and follow the well-developed path in the direction of the lift route to the Hochfelln summit (1674m).

For the descent, we take the same way back. At the junction, turn right over the narrow mountain path and continue over the southern slope to the summit of the Strohnkopf (1462m). Our path continues along the path on the ridge, past another vantage point to Fahrnboden Alm. Here we simply keep going downhill on the farm track to the starting point.

Alternative: As a Bike & Hike tour, you can simply ride on the alpine farming paths to the Bründling Alm ( and take the same path downhill). You can also visit the summit by cable car from Bergen.

Photo tips that will make your Instagram pop! Telephoto lens, and capturing sunrises and sunsets

What photographers dream of, our friend Sebastian Scheichl experienced at Hochfelln hike. The Bavarian Alps in their full glory with magnificient golden hour colours.

The Hochfelln is a popular vantage point at all times of the day and year. With the telephoto lens, we can capture exciting foggy games in autumn or see Lake Chiemsee flashing in the distance.

Mountain Moments Photo Workshops provide Photo Tours for everybody, Alpine Experience for beginners and intermediate-level photographers with 3 to 6-hour routes, as well as Summit Experience for more advanced photographers and hikers. We have private workshops and group classes.

In summer, photos are particularly good at sunrise and sunset: on the Hochfelln we are higher than the surrounding mountains and can experiment with the play of light for a long time.
