Panoramic Via Ferrata Hike at Iseler! Explore Photo Opportunities on Three Summits
Before visiting Iseler, a mountain in Bavaria, Germany, hikers are advised to take with them enough free time, and an empty memory card for their camera. The reason? There are three summits to choose from on this tour – Wannenjoch, Kühgundkopf, and Kühgundrücken!
Mountain Moments is here to guide you through this via Ferrata trip, with a route map and professional hiking and photo tips as a part of photography workshops.
What can you expect during this outdoor adventure in the Bavarian Alps?
The Iselergrat is an impressive and easy-to-reach mountain ridge. Here, on the border between Allgäu and Tyrol, we hike on old smugglers’ paths!
With its quite long and well-developed ridge path, it enchants us with fantastic views of the Oberallgäu and Tannheimer Tal.

Directions! This is how you Iseler hiking trail looks like on a map
The starting point of this tour is at the parking lot between Grenzwieslift and Iselerbahn on the B308.
First to the Iselerbahn valley station (1150m). Here we follow the road to the Gund Alpe. Now we continue uphill on the hiking trail in the direction of the Iselerbahn mountain station/smugglers’ path/Iseler. At the mountain station, we leave the smugglers’ path and hike uphill in the direction of Iseler to the summit (1876m).
Follow the ridge path further up and down via Kühgundkopf/Wannenjoch (1908m) and Kühgundspitze (1890m). Continue down the logical path via Kühgundkopf (1852m) to another crossing with the smugglers’ path. Here we keep left and take the second downhill turn towards Wiedhagbahn/Oberjoch. Along the sidewalk, on the B308 it goes back to the starting point.
Alternatives: On the final ascent to the Iseler – at around 1700 meters above sea level – you can also turn left onto the Iseler via Ferrata. The via Ferrata meets the ridge path twice. The descent is via the hiking trail, as described.

Photo tips that will make your Instagram pop! Alpine meadows and mountain pine slopes
Particularly attractive on this tour between Hochallgäu and Tannheimer Tal are the extensive alpine meadows with the partly traditional, typical alpine huts in a panoramic view.
Fans of nature photography enjoy the variety of flowers on the Iselergrat.
Mountain Moments provides Photo Tours for everybody, Alpine Experience for beginners and intermediate-level photographers with 3 to 6-hour routes, as well as Summit Experience for more advanced photographers and hikers. We have private workshops and group classes.
On the ridge path and especially on the via Ferrata, the steep grass meadow and mountain pine slopes can sometimes be combined with depth. A person as a size and depth comparison often works very well here as a silhouette.
