Panoramic Hike to Jochberg Mountain – 4-Hour Round Trip in German Alps with amazing 2-Lake Views
At just 1565 meters, the Jochberg is not necessarily the most impressive size in the German Alps – and yet it is one of the most popular destinations in the Munich area.
190-meter-deep photo-friendly Lake Walchen, beautiful Alpine foothills, breathtaking sunsets… There’s a lot to like, and Mountain Moments will help you to get there and navigate on location. Make the most of your camera on this moderately difficult hiking trip by being a part of our photography workshops.
What’s so special about this hiking route? This is what awaits you on the location
The fantastic view of the foothills of the Alps is at least as good as the well-known views of the neighboring mountain – the Herzogstand.
Steep mountain flanks tower down to the Kochelsee, and the deepest and largest German Alpine lake greets you: the Walchensee. The deep turquoise water and the white limestone on the shore give the Bavarian Caribbean its colloquial name.
Directions! This is how your hiking trip looks like on a map
From the top of the pass (car park) on Kesselberg (859m), the hiking trail leads clearly visible and signposted directly up to Jochberg (1565m). The path is relatively steep but very pleasant to walk. It meanders logically uphill in the forest until just before the summit. The last few meters from the edge of the forest are scenic along the ridge to the summit.
For the descent, we first take the same path downhill and at the edge of the forest we turn off (1317m) to the Jocher Alm (1381m). After a snack break, we first follow the road and later the hiking trail down to Walchensee (805m).
Keep right at the lake and walk along the lakeshore back to the tourist restaurants in Urfeld. Now it’s a few meters along the road (caution: heavy traffic) or uphill via shortcuts back to the starting point at Kesselberg (859m).
Photo tips that will make your Instagram pop! Prepare your wide-angle lens
The Jochberg inspires with its advanced location in the foothills of the Alps. On the one hand, photographic deep views await you on the ascent to the Kochelsee in a northerly direction (wide-angle lens recommended). On the other hand, the views of the rugged rock faces of the Karwendel and Zugspitz massifs above Lake Walchen create a particularly interesting motif.
Mountain Moments Photo Workshops provide Photo Tours for everybody, Alpine Experience for beginners and intermediate-level photographers with 3 to 6-hour routes, as well as Summit Experience for more advanced photographers and hikers. We have private workshops and group classes.
Especially in autumn, wafting clouds and fields of fog often form here, which have their special charm. In midsummer, it is advisable to take photographs of the sunset in particular. In summer, the sun sets beautifully over the lower-lying foothills of the Alps.
